Shattered Dreams - Broken Promises

Chapter 10

Amber's View

"What the hell do you want?" I asked as I opened the door to find Howie standing outside.
"Rhonda kicked me out..."
"Good!" I said angrily still wanting to hit him for what he had done to her. "She needed to kick your ass out!"
Howie just stood there for a minute before saying anything else. "Is AJ here?"
I debated on whether to answer that question when AJ came down the stairs and walked over to us. "Hey D what's up?"
"Umm, could I talk to you for a few minutes?"
"Sure, come on in," AJ said motioning for Howie to enter. I shot him a dirty look. I didn't want him in my house. "Arrianna needs you." was all he said ignoring the look on my face. I gave both of them another look before heading upstairs to see what my daughter wanted.

"What the fuck is going on?" I said as I came back downstairs.
"Howie needs a place to stay for awhile," AJ answered carrying a bag in the house from Howie's car.
"Well he's not fucking staying here!"
"Yes, he is. It's already been decided."
"Decided by who? I never remember anyone asking me if I minded having that cheater living with me and my family!" I shouted angrily.
"Well he's my friend and I said he could stay here."
"Well she's my friend and I say I don't want him anywhere near me."
"Honey we can deal with this later," AJ said in a patronizing tone. "I'm not going to kick my friend out with nowhere to go."
"There are plenty of good hotels in the area."
"Babe, please come on..." I stood there with my arms crossed, not wanting to give in to the puppy dog look on his face. "Please...for me."
I sighed, "Fine, but don't expect me to be pleasant or go out of my way to do anything for him."
"Thank you babe," he said giving me a kiss and then heading back out to help Howie with a few more bags. By the look on his face I could see that Howie had overheard our conversation.
"Good," I thought. "He'll know to stay away from me."

Rhonda's View

It was the next morning and I headed downstairs with the twins for breakfast. Nick was already downstairs eating some waffles. I began to make some cereal for the babies when Nick spoke up.
"Are you okay?"
"Fine as I can be at 7:00 in the morning."
A few minutes later, Nick spoke up again "I heard you guys last night."
"What exactly did you hear?" I asked hoping that Nick didn't hear the entire argument.
"I can't picture Howie doing that?"
"Well...he did."
"But how could he do that to you?" Nick muttered.
"You know what Nick, I don't know how he could fuckin' do that!!" I broke down into tears. Nick came over and put his arms around me.
"Don't worry. Things will work out. They have to. Maybe if you guys just talk through this..."
"I don't want to talk to him right now. I just...I just need to take care of my babies."

"Maybe you should come over and talk to Howie," AJ said on the answering machine. "You have to let him explain. Call us." That was the seventeenth message on my machine from either Howie or AJ asking me to come over there.
"Maybe you should go over there," Nick said standing behind me.
"I don't want to do this," I said.
"You owe it to your marriage to at least talk to Howie."
"I owe it to my marriage? And Howie owes what?" I snapped at Nick. Nick just sighed knowing there was no answer to my question. "I'm sorry Nick."
"I know...it's the situation. Just go over there for a little bit. I'll watch the kids."
